According to Digitas, 16 percent of smartphone or tablet owners said they would use a mobile devices to shop on Thanksgiving, or “Mobile Thursday,” last year. This year, that figure will rise to 28 percent. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, also found that 29 percent of smartphone or tablet owners say they have used or plan to use their mobile devices to help with upcoming Thanksgiving preparations. Thirty-eight percent of students say they will do holiday shopping on their mobile devices this Thanksgiving, with 22 percent of students saying they will likely not accept a Thanksgiving meal invite if they know they won’t be able to use their mobile devices while there. Brands need to catch up to this trend: 76 percent of consumers who shop by mobile devices and computers say shopping is easier via computers, and just 8 percent say their shopping experience is easier on mobile devices.
