Mobile Package Delivers Ringside Content to WWE Fans

World Wrestling Entertainment has launched a mobile alert subscription package, which gives wrestling fans access to breaking news and updates via their cell phones.

Fans can subscribe to the new service from their current wireless provider by texting “Fan” to 46993 (GOWWE). Program highlights include rivalry trivia questions, polls, and SMS messaging during Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown shows. The package costs $3.99 per month.

“The beauty of mobile is that we can push content wherever they [fans] are about WWE,” said David Knise, VP-interactive development at WWE. “We’ll be able to provide robust content including factoids on WWE Superstars, smack down reviews and results, and offer merchandise discounts.”

The program rolled out last week and sends 10 messages each week to member’s mobile phones.

Growth in the company’s Web site traffic (up 10 million unique visitors since the year began) spurred WWE to look for alternatives to offer content to the on-the-go fan, said WWE spokesperson Gary Davis.

“We’re constantly working on our audience and potential audiences to be relevant to their lives,” Davis said. “Trying to find out now what may be 15 years away is part of the challenge, but this new product is one way to help reach the mobile consumer which is a critical demo for our brand.”
