Direct marketing services firm MetroGroup has acquired Proficient Data, a transaction document management, production and mailing services company. The acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Proficient Data’s clients are primarily from the telecommunications, financial services, healthcare and insurance industries, although its roster also includes utilities, credit unions and collection agencies and companies seeking business-to-business direct marketing solutions.

Proficient Data employs more than 120 employees in offices located in suburban Chicago and Milwaukee. MetroGroup is based in Lincoln, NE.

“The acquisition of Proficient Data fits perfectly with our goal of growing our transaction mail business,” said Robert E. Logan, CEO of MetroGroup, in a statement. “It also brings us a number of important acquisition-focused direct mail clients to which we can offer our unique capabilities and added value because of our size and approach.”

James T. Russell, president of Proficient Data, will serve as president of the new transaction mail division of MetroGroup, and will report to Logan. Russell and his partner Donald E. McKevitt will become equity partners in MetroGroup, which is currently owned by members of the company’s senior management team and Sterling Capital Partners.

MetroGroup’s billings last year were around $100 million, while Proficient Data racked up revenue of approximately $20 million.
