Appealing to health-conscious consumers, McDonald’s Corp. will begin offering a healthful meal targeting adults later this year.
McDonald’s tested the meals, dubbed Go Active! Adult Happy Meals, last September at 150 restaurants in Indiana and plans to roll the program out nationally with Oprah’s personal trainer, Bob Greene, as spokesperson. The meal, which sold for $4.99 in the test market, includes an entrée-sized salad, bottled water or medium fountain drink, an exercise booklet from Greene and a pedometer.
The meal is part of McDonald’s overall health initiative supported by the ‘I’m lovin’ it’ global ad campaign promoting a youthful lifestyle.
In other news, McDonald’s has named Eric Leininger head of McDonald’s Global Business Research. Leininger previously worked as senior VP-marketing services for Kraft Foods North America. He has 23 years of industry experience, including working at ACNielsen and Quaker Oats.
