Mary Kay, the direct seller of skin care and color cosmetics, is running a search for a beauty model.
To enter, people must visit a Mary Kay consultant to receive a makeover. The consultant will take before and after photographs of the person, who must complete an entry form and mail in the photos along with a quotation that finishes the sentence: “I feel like a model of beauty when I . . .” The promo is at MaryKay.com.
A panel of judges will select a winner based on four criteria: contrast between the before–and-after photographs (25%); perceived personality, vitality and inspiration of entrant (25%); photogenic attributes of entrant (25%) and overall impact of makeover (25%). The quotations will be judged: originality (25%); creativity (25%); inspiration to others (25%); and clarity (25%).
Four grand-prize winners receive a trip to New York City for a professional makeover and photo shoot and a $500 shopping spree. Based on the results of the shoot, the winners may have the opportunity to be featured in a 2008 edition of the Mary Kay Catalog, The Look.
The promotion is run in-house.
In other news, Mary Kay has signed a deal to be the official beauty sponsor of the Country Music Awards, to be held Nov. 7 in Nashville, TN.
The deal includes a number of marketing initiatives.
The Beauty of Country sweepstakes offers the chance to win a trip for two to attend the show, a pre-show makeover by Mary Kay beauty expert Susie Jasper and a Mary Kay makeup kit. Players can register at the Web site.
Jasper will also be backstage primping artists prior to the event.
