Macy’s is partnering with the National Park Foundation to launch a weeklong eco-awareness campaign next month that will include charity shopping days and giveaways.

The Turn Over a New Leaf campaign is part of Macy’s Earth Week celebration with the non-profit group designed to support, educate and inspire sustainability and eco-friendly practices in everyday life.

Starting April 20, customers can buy tickets for One Good Turn, a charity-shopping event scheduled for April 26-27, during which all proceeds will benefit the National Park Foundation. People who make a $5 donation at Macy’s stores or online to http://www.nationalparks.org will receive a ticket, which can be used as a two-day in-store and online shopping pass. It can be redeemed for 20% off most men’s, women’s, kids’ and accessories merchandise and 10% off most home items. Proceeds with benefit the foundation.

On April 22, Earth Day, Macy’s will offer special giveaways and promotions, including a free sapling to the first 100 people in each store. In addition, the first 100 children will receive a National Park Foundation eco-friendly “Kid Power” activity and coloring book. The book includes a coloring contest. Artwork returned to any Macy’s children’s department on April 26 and 27 will receive a “Kid Power” Patch.

Macy’s will also distribute reusable tote bags to the first 150 people who visit its stores on April 26, the start of the charity event. Bags will be sold for $3.95 with $1 of the price benefiting the foundation.

The retailer is promoting an online sweepstakes on http://www.Macys.com offering the chance to win a Ford Escape Hybrid car. Other prizes include a trip for four to U.S. national parks.

The company is also backing the National Park Foundation’s Junior Ranger Essay Contest, which invites children ages nine to 11 to turn in essays on “turning over a new leaf” for the environment and national parks. The top winner will receive a trip for four to Everglades National Park in Florida and star in an electronic field trip broadcast live from the park that millions of school children will watch across the U.S.

“The National Park Foundation is proud to be chosen as the first charity in Macy’s history to be the sole beneficiary of a national charity shopping event,” said Vin Cipolla, president/CEO of the National Park Foundation, in a statement.
