Lifetime Bus Tour Aims to Inspire Women Politically

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Lifetime Networks is on the road with a national bus tour intended to bring American women into the political process in the run-up to this year’s presidential election.

Lifetime’s “Every Woman Counts” tour is making stops in 11 cities, including Denver and Minneapolis/St. Paul during the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in late August and early September. At each stop, women will be encouraged to register to vote at myLifetime.com.

Visitors will also have a chance to view a series of “If I were president…” vignettes recorded by entertainment celebrities Reba McIntyre, Jewel, Queen Latifah and others. And they’re invited to record their own videos on the same theme for uploading to Lifetime’s YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/lifetime.

Toby Graff, Lifetime senior vice president of public affairs, called the promotion “a fun way for women to get their priorities heard.”

More significantly, Lifetime is trying to redress the non-participation of 35 million eligible female voters in the 2004 presidential election.

“One of our goals is to change that statistic,” Graff said.

As part of the, Lifetime recently commissioned a poll conducted jointly by Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway and Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, addressing women’s reactions to Democrat Sen. Barack Obama and Republican Sen. John McCain. Obama drew support from 49% of those polled, with 38% favoring McCain and 10% firmly undecided.

Among those who voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton, 76% favored Obama and 18% favored McCain.

Lifetime is promoting its bus tour on air and online through its own Web sites and a coalition of women’s advocacy groups it has become associated with since launching “Every Woman Counts” in 1992.

Information about the tour is available at www.everywomancounts08.com, which also provides a link to the YouTube site. Alloy Media ‘s Amp Agency is handling the tour.
