Instagram Will Soon Have Ads, Integrates Foursquare Feature

Posted on

InstagramSurprise, surprise: Instagram will eventually be monetized, according to Carolyn Everson, vice president of global marketing solutions for Facebook. Ever since Facebook purchased Instagram for a cool $1 billion in April, expectations of ads invading the ad-free Instagram have been cemented. At Business Insider’s Ignition 2012, Everson was asked if ads would be put in Instagram. Her response: “Eventually we’ll figure out a way to monetize Instagram.” Though Facebook declined to comment further about a difference between “ads” and “monetization,” the direction Instagram is headed is clear enough, especially in light of Facebook’s strong emphasis on mobile advertising.

In other Instagram news, the social network filled with filtered photos announced that its iOS application now includes a special Foursquare button that leads people over to the establishment’s Foursquare page. “The integration between the two makes a ton of sense, because when you see an interesting place on Instagram, you can tap right over to Foursquare and save it to your to-do list, and then Foursquare can remind you about it when you’re nearby,” a Foursquare representative said. Twitter is but a faint memory, it seems.
