Hyundai Challenge Ends After 18 Hour Hunt

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

It took four strangers only 18 hours to locate one another to win a challenge posed by Hyundai.

On April 30, 16 finalists, who had never met and knew nothing about one another, were divided into groups of four. Each team member received a four-piece collage comprised of certain facial details of their teammates forming one composite face. The first team that correctly identified each member by full name and city and state of residence won a 2007 Hyundai Elantra per person.

As the teams moved along, correct answers to trivia questions gave them clues to help locate teammates. The teams were given trivia questions that if answered correctly earned clues to help solve the challenge.

The winning team turned to a number of online resources including MySpace, Blog Spot, and Craig’s List, to identify each other, Hyundai said.

The members of the non-winning teams received $500 Amex cards.

The winners are: Shane Dixon – Atlanta, GA; Young Woo – Henryville, PA; Kareem Tyson – St. Paul, MN; Paul Stanosheck – Odell, NE;

The challenge, called the Mash and Seek, began in March. (Promo Xtra, March 13, 2007).

It challenged individuals to master the Internet and use “smart” thinking and the need for “discovery” to identify their teammates, Hyundai said.

“I really enjoyed this game, and preferred it to the general drawings and sweepstakes that most companies offer,” Stanosheck told Hyundai. “It is rare to find a game or competition that uses your brain and plays upon the use of innovation and technology.”
