History Channel Launches Mall Tour Sweeps for New Series

The History Channel is building buzz around its new mini series, 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America via a seven-city mall tour and sweepstakes, in which consumers can win themed trips to historic U.S. locations.

The 10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America Mall Tour features a 20-by-30-foot exhibit with a red carpet entrance that brings consumers inside the TV series. The exhibit contains two kiosks that run clips of the show, including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with filmmakers. Fans can learn about the history of specific events via touch-screen kiosks.

“There are many pivotal moments in the history of our country and we’re going to point out 10 that had a profound affect on…the way we are today,” Michael Mohamad, senior VP-marketing, The History Channel, said yesterday. “This is The History Channel at its best.”

Tour stops include Miami’s Pembroke Lakes Mall, Dallas Stonebriar Centre, Chicago’s Northbrook Court and Boston’s Natick Mall. The tour, which opened on March 4, ends April 9. Online materials, in-mall signage and radio spots support. Norm Marshall Associates, New York, handles.

10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America consists of 10 films based on 10 historic events that triggered major shifts in America’s political, cultural or social landscape. To coincide with the tour, The History Channel has launched the 10 Ways to See America sweepstakes for a chance to win a seven-day trip to a place that unexpectedly changed America. Viewers enter online at History.com/10Days.

Ten grand-prize winners can choose from one of 10 trips thematically based on the films, including traveling to San Francisco to see the Gold Rush Trail, to Memphis to experience to Elvis Presley’s rise to fame, or to Boston sites that were significant during the post-Revolutionary War rebellion that inspired the drafting of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Lesser prizes include family portrait packages from JCPenney Portraits and Elvis Presley Prize Packs. The sweepstakes is open to consumers 21 and older and runs through April 13. Online materials support.
