Heinz has had a lot of fun running its contest that calls on grade-school students to design labels for its ketchup packets. But it a new twist, for the first time, a grand-prize winner will have their artwork appear on 2.5 million ketchup bottles.
Twelve winners will be chosen by a public vote. In addition to the winner who get’s his design on bottles (and a $5,700 cash prize) each of the other winners will have their artwork appear on about 20 million Heinz Ketchup packets and online and will also receive a $1,000 cash prize.
The winners’ schools each will receive $1,000 toward art supplies, a voucher for $1,000 worth of Heinz Ketchup, and a poster of the winner’s artwork at a special awards ceremony with Heinz. The contest ends Feb. 26. Online voting for the winners will run March 22 through March 27, 2010, and the winners will be publicly announced in April 2010.
Internationally acclaimed artist Burton Morris returns to the judges’ panel and will visit the grand-prize winner’s school.
“We’re delighted with the response to the program over the past three years and we’re eager to see what this year’s program will bring,” Erin Catalina, associate brand manager for Heinz Ketchup, said in a release.
Since Heinz ran the promotion for the first time in 2006, tens of thousands of entries have been submitted. More than 16,000 students entered the first contest in 2006 – 2007 and more than 14,500 entered the 2007 – 2008 contest,
