HBO Hypes Final Sopranos Episodes with Online Sweepstakes

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

HBO is paying homage to the final episodes of The Sopranos with an online game and sweepstakes that lets fans take a whack at their favorite characters.

The interactive game lets players use a virtual mallet to “whack” Sopranos characters. The online promotion is designed to drive buzz around the final episodes of the HBO drama, which airs April 8 at 9 p.m. ET.

Players can register for the Whack-a-Soprano: The Final Whack game at HBO.com. During the game, fans pick a gender-specific mobster name and try to whack their favorite characters.

Consumers earn scores and titles based on game play in three rounds. Participants who receive 5,000 to 9,999 points earn the title of Wise Guy, while players with 15,000 to 19,999 points are called Consigliore. And those with 20,000 or more points are called a Made Man.

One grand-prize winner gets a trip to see Dominic Chianese (who plays Uncle Junior on the show) and the New York Sidewalkers perform live in New York City, with hotel accommodations and airfare. First prizes include The Sopranos season six on DVD and instant-win prizes include Sopranos mugs and caps.

The online game builds off a similar game HBO ran last year to promote the premiere of the final season.

The sweepstakes runs through May 31. Online ads support the promotion. EPrize, Pleasant Ridge, MI, handles the sweepstakes.
