Google Wins Handily in February

According to the latest numbers released by Hitwise, Google gobbled up 66.44% of all U.S. search queries in February 2008. This reflected a 1% increase from January’s 65.98% share, and 4% increase from last February’s 63.90% share.

Yahoo was second on the list, handling 20.59% of all U.S. searches in February. This was relatively the same as January’s 20.94% share, and a drop off from last year’s 21.47% share.

MSN/Live grabbed 6.95% of all queries in February, a slight increase from January’s 6.90% share and a noticeable drop from last February’s 9.30% share.

Ask.com was fourth in line with 4.16% of all U.S. searches in February, which was a slight decline from its 4.21% share in January, but an 18% increase from last February’s 3.52% market share.

The report also noted that Entertainment, Business and Finance, and Sports categories saw double digit growth in the amount of traffic it receives through search engines, comparing February 2008 to February 2007. Health and Medical sites received 43.74% of their traffic from search engines, 28.69% of which came directly through Google.
