Google Is The Number One Brand

In another display of their worldwide domination, and in yet another Microsoft upset, Google has been found to be the most valuable brand in terms of dollar value for 2007 by research firm Millard Brown and the Financial Times. It jumped from number seven on last year’s list to take the top spot from Microsoft, which was number one in 2006 and dropped to number three on this year’s list.

Google’s brand value for 2007 was pegged at $66.4 million, which was a huge 77% increase from last year’s $37.4 million figure.

General Electric remained steady by holding onto the number two spot with a brand value of $61.9 million, which was a 11% jump from last year’s $55.8 million value.

Microsoft ($55.0 million), Coca Cola ($44.1 million), and China Mobile ($41.2 million) rounded out the top five on the list.

Wal-Mart ($36.9 million) was number seven, Apple ($24.7 million) was number 16, Yahoo! ($13.2 million) was number 42, and Amazon ($6.0 million) was number 92.

British retailer Marks & Spencer made the largest brand value gains with an increase of 192%, while Home Depot experienced the biggest drop with a 33% decline.

Google, Apple, Louis Vuitton, Starbucks, Porsche, eBay, Chanel, Hermes, Amazon, and Rolex make up the "Top 10 with Highest Brand Momentum" list.

More than a million global consumers were surveyed for this report, and over 39,000 brands were included.

The total value of all the top 100 brand names on 2007’s list was $1.6 trillion, which is higher than 2006’s total value of $1.44 trillion.
