Though it is true that international soccer star David Beckham signed a three-year marketing agreement with The Gillette Company in May, a company spokesperson said the financial terms published recently in a Spanish sports daily are “ridiculous.”

Speaking from Boston, Gillette spokesperson Michele Szynal said the U.S. $61 million quoted by the newspaper was “grossly overvalued.” She said the reporter was trying to make a point that Beckham, who plays for Real Madrid, earned twice as much money through his Gillette endorsement than the entire budget of Real Madrid’s opponent, Numanica.
The newspaper reported that Beckham inked a five-year deal, but Szynal confirmed the length is three years. She did not confirm the financial details.
