Video game rental service GameFly has launched a new loyalty program that rewards subscribers with coupons and discounts off pre-played video games.
Under the GameFly Rewards program, members receive five GameFly dollars off pre-played game purchases for every three consecutive months of membership and 5% off pre-played video games at the GameFly store after six consecutive months of membership. In addition, members earn 10% off pre-played games and five GameFly dollars every three months following 12 consecutive months of membership.
The program, which launched this month, is free and open to all GameFly subscribers. Current members are automatically enrolled in the program.
“We wanted to create an incentive for folks to stay longer,” CEO Dave Hodess said. “We wanted to take care of our customer base and add some value to the GameFly membership.”
Similar to video rental service Netflix, subscribers pay a monthly fee ranging from $14.95 to $39.95 to receive video games by mail. Platforms include Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, GameCube and Nintendo DS. Members can keep the rentals as along as they want without paying a late fee.
GameFly is among the first video game rental companies that offer a loyalty program, Hodess said. GameFly Rewards clearly “speaks” to GameFly’s members— and casual gamers.
“Major gamers buy used games in any given year,” Hodess explained. For GameFly members, “it’s darn easy to buy a game that shows up on your door.”
