Freshpet Contest Searches for Naughty Dogs

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Refrigerated pet food maker Freshpet is searching for the owners of unruly dogs with a contest that will award the top winner a private in-home dog training session.

Freshpet is using the contest, in part, to promote its new line of canine treats, The Loved Dog Treats, which launched in May, Brand Manager Kathryn Winstanley said.

Dog owners who visit www.theloveddogcontest.com submit videos of their mischievous pooches showing why their dogs and situations are unique. People must also describe and show their pet’s misbehavior in their submissions through Aug. 15. Essays with photos of the dogs will also be accepted.

One grand-prize winner will receive a one-hour personal training session with dog trainer Tamar Geller for their dog and a The Loved Dog Treats gift pack, which includes a signed copy of “The Loved Dog” book, the “Celebrate Your Dog” DVD, Freshpet food, and dog treats. Five first-prize winners will each receive a prize pack.

On the site, visitors can also hear about training tips from Gellar, who developed The Loved Dog Method, a technique that uses games, communication and love to train dogs.

“We want people to learn about Tamar’s non-aggressive game-play training techniques spread the word about our relevant products,” Winstanley said.

Winstanley called the partnership between Geller and Freshpet “ideal,” adding that Geller’s training methods mesh well with the company’s mantra of looking after the well being of pets.

The Loved Dog Treats come in 8-ounce resealable pouches and are available in two varieties: Real Beef Recipe and Real Chicken Recipe. They are available in select grocery and mass merchandise stores. It’s the first treat variety for Freshpet, which launched in 2005.
