France, US Mobile Phone Users Make Voice Calls Most Frequently

The “phone” in “mobile phone” might be a bit misleading, according to a recent study published by London-based Lightspeed Research.

The study reveals that mobile phone users in France most frequently use their mobile phones to make voice calls, with 57 percent saying they do so at least once per day, 21 percent saying 3-4 times per week, 12 percent saying 1-2 times per week and 4 percent saying once per week.

Six percent of French mobile phone users say they make voice calls with their mobile phones less than once per week.

Meanwhile, 52 percent of mobile phone users in the U.S. say they make voice calls at least once per day, 17 percent say 3-4 times per week, 7 percent say 1-2 times per week and 4 percent say once per week.

Seven percent of American mobile phone users say they make voice calls less than once per week and 13 percent say they never make voice calls.

In the U.K., 36 percent of mobile phone users say they make voice calls at least once per day, 20 percent say 3-4 times per week, 12 percent say 1-2 times per week and 7 percent say once per week.

Fourteen percent of British mobile phone users say they make voice calls less than once per week and 11 percent say they never make voice calls.

In Germany, 42 percent of mobile phone users say they make voice calls at least once per day, 24 percent say 3-4 times per week, 15 percent say 1-2 times per week and 7 percent say once per week.

Eleven percent of German mobile phone users say they make voice calls less than once per week and 1 percent say they never make voice calls.

In the U.K., mobile phone users send SMS/text messages more often than they make voice calls. Forty-nine percent of British mobile phone users send SMs/text messages at least once per day and 82 percent send one at least once per week.

Nine percent say they browse the Internet on their mobile phones at least once per day and 22 percent say they do at least once per week.

Mobile phone users in the U.S. seem to want satellite navigation systems and location-based products on their mobile phones. Thirty-eight percent of American mobile phone users say they want to use their mobile phones as satellite navigation systems, 37 percent say they want to use them to locate friends/family/children in real time, 27 percent say they want to use them as electronic keys for houses and cars, 23 percent say they want to pay bills on them and 23 percent say they want to use them to monitor their home security system in real time.
