Expedia Offers Hotel Rates Cuts, Gas Cards for Travelers

Expedia is offering deep discounts of up to 50% on hotel reservations and prepaid gas cards to encourage travelers to make summer vacation plans.

More than 125 hotels of the 400 participating in Expedia’s program are offering vacationers half-off their usual booking rates for stays of four nights or more. Other participating hotels are giving discounts of at least 30% off on room rates. Reservations must be booked online at www.expedia.com through Sept. 2 for travel through Sept. 30.

“We have various levels of locations in the sale,” Expedia spokesperson Karmen Johnson said.

Hotels in popular U.S. destinations, including Las Vegas, NV, Chicago and San Francisco, CA, as well as hotels in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean are included in the promotion.

Expedia is also offering travelers free $75 Gas Money Prepaid MasterCards with hotel stays of four nights or more. Three night stays come with a $50 complimentary gas card, with two night stays drawing $25 gas cards.

That incentive is aimed at travelers staying close to home for their vacations, according to Johnson.

The promotion is a response to hotels’ concerns about maintaining occupancy rates in the current economic downturn.

“Our business partners are looking for us to help them,” Johnson said.

She said the reduced hotel rates and gas cards are also a response to concern summer travelers have about staying within their vacation budgets.

Expedia is touting the hotel discounts and the gas cards with a large ad on the front page of its Web site.
