EchoStar Hangs Up on Retailer for DNC Complaints

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Satellite direct broadcast company EchoStar Communications and its Dish Network have terminated their relationship with an independent EchoStar retailer because of apparent violations of Do Not Call restrictions.

The terminated partnership with JSR Enterprises of Santa Ana CA comes two months after a Circuit Court judge in St. Louis MO issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting JSR from making telemarketing calls to Missouri consumers. EchoStar conducted an internal investigation of the complaints that led Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon to request TROs against JSR, among other non-EchoStar retailers.

In that request, Nixon’s office claimed that JSR requested a copy of Missouri’s Do Not Call registry in October 2006 but was still cited in 82 consumer complaints after receiving the list.

Shortly after the TROs were handed down last December, EchoStar cut ties to two other independent retailers of its services following investigations into telemarketing violation charges.

“EchoStar will continue to expend significant resources and work with law enforcement agencies in pursuit of improper solicitations by parties who hide behind EchoStar’s Dish Network trade name,” senior vice president of retail services and sales Erik Carlson said in a statement.
