Dreyer’s Offers CDs with In-Store Purchase

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is pushing sales of its Slow Churned Light Ice Cream with a gift with purchase offer for a free CD.

People who buy any two 48-ounce packages of the product will receive a free CD featuring eight original tracks of former “American Idol” finalists from the last six seasons of the hit Fox show.

The CDs are available in the ice cream aisle at participating retail outlets. About 1 million discs will be distributed through April as part of the promotion, Dreyer’s said.

“Our goal…is to provide these talented artists with valuable opportunities for exposure and give their loyal fans a chande to listen to their new and previously unreleased music,” said Brad Bridges of Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.

Dreyer’s has linked itself to “American Idol” before.

In January, it announced it started rolling out five new “American Idol” flavors of its Slow Churned Light Ice Cream: Cheesecake Diva, Cookies N Dreamz, Mint Karaoke Cookie, Most Orange-inal and One Split Wonder. The limited-edition items are available through September.

The effort marks the second time the company has launched show-specific flavors.

People can vote for their favorite at http://www.Slowchurned.com until May 31. The winning flavor will earn a permanent spot in the Slow Churned light ice cream line-up. Those who cast a vote before April 29 will be entered for a chance to win a trip to the “American Idol” finale and other prizes.
