Doritos, at it Again, Gives Control to Consumers

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Doritos has put creative control once again into the hands of its consumers.

This time, Doritos has launched the Fight for the Flavor campaign that lets people vote for two new chip flavors.

The contest is in full swing through May 25 at SnackStrongProductions.com.

The two flavors, Doritos Smokin’ Cheddar BBQ or Doritos Wild White Nacho, are available nationally for a limited time. Consumers will pick which flavor makes the cut and which one gets pulled from store shelves.

“The idea of Doritos fans continuing to take control of the brand is what excites us about the ‘Fight for the Flavor’ campaign,” said Ann Mukherjee, vice president, marketing, Frito-Lay, in a statement. “We want Doritos fans to continue to tell us what they want to see, from the advertising to our next flavor and beyond.”

TV spots, online ads, messaging on packaging and in-store displays are supporting the promotion. Videos of the two flavors battling for “flavor supremacy” will be shown as part of select TV and online programming, including Comedy Central, MTV, VH-1 and Heavy.com.

Earlier this year, Doritos let consumers make commercials for the brand and then aired two, unedited, during Super Bowl XL in February.
