Dollar, Thrifty Offer Prepaid Tolls with Florida Rentals

Looking to boost fall and early winter car rental rates among “snowbirds” who go south early in the season, Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental are offering prepaid tolls with rental deals in Florida.

Dollar and Thrifty’s Pass24 Prepaid Toll Service is being offered for free on select car rentals at participating locations through Dec. 15. Customers who visit Florida must use an American Express card and make reservations using Promo Code AX13 to qualify for the offer.

A premium car rental is $44 per day or $289 per week; standard-size SUVs are $49 a day or $299 a week and mid-size SUVs are $39 a day or $199 per week. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance and weekly rate require a five-day minimum rental. The Pass24 pre-paid toll service normally costs $5.95 per day or $27.95 per week.

“We’ve done these promotions off and on and people seem to respond to them very well,” Dollar spokesman Chris Payne said.

Both companies see considerable “lift” in rentals as a result of the pre-paid tolls promotion, although Payne declined to quantify the impact.

Dollar and Thrifty are plugging the special offer with a PR campaign and banner ads on both of their Web sites, www.dollar.com and www.thrifty.com, where information about the pre-paid tolls deal is also accessible.
