The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) will honor the best dissertation proposal it receives for research on direct interactive marketing with a Shankar-Spiegel Award next year.

This new award has been established to recognize doctoral degree candidates. It has been named after its co-sponsors Venkatesh “Venky” Shanker, professor of marketing at Texas A&M University and Edward J. “Ted” Spiegel, president and founder of Spiegel Marketing Associates.

The award is intended for doctoral candidates in advertising, marketing, computer science, economics, statistics and other relevant disciplines that advance the understanding of direct interactive marketing.

One or more winners announced in March 2008 will receive the award in October. Up to $6,000 will be awarded in financial assistance for travel to the Direct Marketing Association 2008 conference, data collection and other research-related expenses. Winners will receive $3,000 and those who receive honorable mention will receive $1,500.
