DMA Calls for Flexible Rate System in PRC Comments

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

At the comment deadline, the Direct Marketing Association called on the Postal Regulatory Commission to design a new system for determining how postage rates will be determined under the reform law that passed last December.

The DMA hopes this new system would give the U.S. Postal Service flexibility to stay competitive in the marketplace. At the same time, mailers are looking for a system that would give them stable and predictable rates tied to the Consumer Price Index.

The current proposal is an excerpt of formal comments the DMA made to the Commission in response to rules the PRC proposed last month.

After President Bush signed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act into law last December, the PRC was charged with generating rules on how to implement the law.

Parties still interested in filling comments with the PRC may submit reply comments to the Commission by Oct. 9.

The PRC is expected to have the new system in place by the end of October.
