Dell Offers Incentives Via Online World Cup Game

Consumers in the U.K. could score thanks to a Dell promotion tied to the World Cup Tournament underway in Germany.

The computer maker is offering incentives, discounts and prizes to fans who play an online soccer game called Dell Football Fever. The promotion lives on Dell.co.uk/game and runs until July 10.

The aim of the game is for soccer fans to score as many goals as possible in two minutes. Players receive bonus points for more skillful shots. With a score of 750 points or more, players receive an e-voucher giving them 20% off a Dell Axim handheld device. With a score of more than 1,500 points, consumers get a 30% discount on a Dell Photo printer.

“The Dell Web site is already an extremely popular online destination, with thousands of unique hits daily,” said Aongus Hegarty, VP-marketing, Dell EMEA, in a statement. “We want to capitalize on this and the World Cup hype by giving customers and non-customers alike, an opportunity to have some fun, win some prizes, and check out Dell’s great portfolio of products, services, electronics and accessories.”

Just as in a real soccer match, the game features advertising billboards situated behind the goal area, which rotate and advertise Dell products and those of third-party vendors.

In a daily drawing during the promotion, players are eligible to win Dell’s Axim handheld device. Consumers are also eligible to enter the grand-prize drawing to win a new gaming notebook. In addition, Web site visitors can opt-in to get updates on other offers and promotions from the company.

The game is being promoted via direct marketing, press and online advertising.

Dell, Inc. ranks no. 25 on the Fortune 500 listing. The company’s revenue for the last four quarters was $56.7 billion.
