Crown Royal Puts Contest Winner’s Name in NASCAR Title

A Louisiana man will be named in the official title of an upcoming NASCAR race after winning a Crown Royal promotion.

Jim Stewart of Houma, LA, beat out about 15,000 other entrants in the Your Name Here 400 promotion.

Stewart was randomly selected from a pool of nine finalists as the grand-prize winner. He receives the naming rights to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway on May, 5. The race will be titled “Crown Royal presents the Jim Stewart 400,” marketing the first time in history that a race will be named after a fan, Crown Royal said.

To participate in the contest, Stewart submitted written and video submissions about his favorite “Crown-worthy moments,” or one in which an occasion was worthy of a toast with a Crown Royal cocktail. Stewart talked about growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

Stewart will also be a guest of honor at the track and participate in pre-race activities, as well as the check and trophy presentations to the race winner.

The contest was held May 6, 2006 through Nov. 23, 2006. Finalists received race tickets, infield access, pre-race tours of the garages, air travel and hotel accommodations to the Daytona 500. (PROMO Xtra, May 6, 2006)

Crown Royal, a Diageo brand, will replay the contest this year, with the official name for the spring 2008 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race awarded to another adult.
