Craigslist, David Carradine Among Popular Search Terms

For the four weeks ending June 6, 2009, “craigslist” was the top overall search term, according to Hitwise.

“Craigslist” received 0.60 percent of all clicks during those four weeks, followed by “myspace” with 0.59 percent, “facebook” with 0.54 percent, “ebay” with 0.30 percent and “myspace.com” with 0.28 percent.

“Youtube” (0.24 percent), “facebook login” (0.16 percent), “facebook.com” (0.15 percent), “yahoo” (0.15 percent) and “mapquest” (0.12 percent) rounded out the top 10 list.

“David Carradine” was the top fastest moving search term, receiving 0.05 percent of all clicks, followed by “belmont stakes” with 0.02 percent.

For the search term “unemployment,” NYSDOL – Unemployment Insurance received 14.52 percent of all clicks, followed by Ohio Unemployment Benefits Online with 13.39 percent, The Unemployment Advisor with 13.10 percent, Employment Security Department with 9.40 percent and Department of Labor and Industry with 5.24 percent.

For the travel industry, in vogue with summer upon us, MapQuest dominated the top 10 search terms. “Mapquest” was first with 2.53 percent of all clicks, followed by “mapquest driving directions” with 0.83 percent, “map quest” with 0.80 percent, “maps” with 0.68 percent and “southwest airlines” with 0.67 percent.

“Google maps” (0.66 percent), “mapquest.com” (0.55 percent), “google earth” (0.47 percent), “travelocity" (0.44 percent) and “expedia” (0.40 percent) rounded out the top 10 travel search terms.

For the search term “sale,” “homes for sale” was the most popular variation in terms of searches with 0.44 percent, followed by “houses for sale” with 0.39 percent, “horses for sale” with 0.36 percent, “cars for sale” with 0.31 percent and “remax.com homes for sale” with 0.30 percent.

“For sale by owner” (0.21 percent), “used cars for sale” (0.21 percent), “boats for sale” (0.14 percent), “puppies for sale” (0.13 percent) and “guns for sale” (0.13 percent) filled out the top 10 list of search term variations for “sale.”

David’s Bridal received the most visits (11.02 percent) of any Web site in the “Lifestyle – Weddings” industry. The Knot (8.99 percent) and WeddingChannel.com (4.64 percent) trailed behind.
