Comerica Extends Miles Program to Debit Cards

Check cardholders, welcome aboard.

Comerica Bank is rolling out two new debit cards that let owners earn WorldPerks airline miles.

The WorldPerks Check Card and the WorldPerks Business Check Card let checking accountholders earn miles on Northwest Airlines and international airlines via Northwest’s Sky Team Global Alliance. Comerica said it will expand the rewards structure for the cards later this year.

Cardholders can earn one mile for each $1 spent (with a $55 annual fee), or one mile for each $2 spent (with a $20 annual fee). (The fee is waived for Comerica’s Platinum Circle checking account customers.) Business cardholders earn one mile for every $1 spent, with a $55 annual fee.

All cardholders get a bonus 1,000 miles when they sign up, the bank said.

The check cards complement point-earning credit cards that Detroit-based Comerica launched in 2006.
