Blockbuster Canada Launches Loyalty Program

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Blockbuster Canada is out with a new program that rewards customers for their in-store movie purchases with e-coupons.

The loyalty program, called Movie Buyers Bonus, offers a $5 e-coupon for every $50 people spend on new or previously-viewed movies. Members also receive special monthly offers via e-mail, such as discounts off select movie titles this month or a free box of chocolate for buying specific DVDs in December.

E-coupons are redeemable on nearly 50 titles in the “Movie Buyers Bonus Now Featuring” section in stores across Canada. The e-coupons offer customers the convenience to receive their incentive immediately and the flexibility use them at their leisure, the company said.

The Movie Buyers Bonus is designed to entice movie enthusiasts to make future purchases and thank them for their current business.

“Blockbuster is always looking for new and innovative ways to maximize value for its customers,” said Abelardo Conde, vice president, merchandise, Blockbuster Canada, in a statement.

The program, which launched last week, is free to join. Blockbuster Canada is a subsidiary of Blockbuster Inc., which operates 447 stores in Canada.

In the U.S., Blockbuster stores run an incentive program tied to movie rentals, not in-store movie purchases.

Online marketing, radio ads and P-O-P support the program.
