Black Friday Online Sales Exceed $1 Billion, up 26% From Last Year

Online holiday shoppingAccording to comScore, Black Friday hit $1.04 billion in online sales, the biggest spending day in 2012 and a 26 percent boost from Black Friday last year. The report notes that Thanksgiving Day saw $633 million in spending, a 32 percent increase from last year. Nov. 1-23 saw $13.7 billion in online spending, up 16 percent from the same shopping period last year (Nov. 3-25). The most visited retailer property on Black Friday (excluding auction sites like eBay) was Amazon, followed by Walmart, Best Buy, Target and Apple. comScore also notes that 57.3 million Americans visited online retail sites on Black Friday, up 18 percent from Black Friday 2011. The top growing product category was digital content and subscriptions (up 29 percent year-over-year), followed by toys (up 27 percent), consumer packaged goods (up 23 percent), video game consoles and accessories (up 18 percent), and consumer electronics (up 18 percent).
