Banta Corp. generated $366 million during its second quarter, up from $341 million a year earlier. The company’s net earnings rose from $15.2 million to $33.8 million. Much of that increase came from its sale of its healthcare business during the quarter, which netted the Menasha, WI-based paper goods firm $20.1 million. The quarter ended July 2.
During the quarter, the firm’s print sector generated $257 million up from $238 million a year ago. Roughly half of the increase was due to higher paper prices, according to the company.
Its direct marketing division saw strong demand for higher-margin personalized print products, as well as improved interest in its traditional direct mail products. These two factors spurred a 7% revenue increase for this division.
Banta’s consumer catalog division saw its fortunes rise by 5%, despite bringing down a few of its presses for a rebuild during the quarter.
