Attention-Getters

A new program of affiliate e-commerce promotions has helped Webstakes, the Internet prize and savings club operator, boost its ratings, according to company officials.

The New York City-based company “incentivized the affiliate program for the first time,” says Webstakes spokesman Unity Stoakes. People who have their own Web sites can host their own Webstakes sweeps free of charge, while new members get a chance to win $500 in cash, he explains.

The new promotions, which include a Universal Studios Sweetheart Sweepstakes at universal.com, “have been extremely successful in driving and retaining traffic,” Stoakes said.

Traffic at webstakes.com increased to nearly 1.7 million visits last December, with the average person visiting more than 300 pages, according to the company. Industry magazine NetRating ranked the site second in page-views per-visitor and 12th in number of page views for sites of its kind.
