AT&T Lets Fans Pick Cotton Bowl Highlights

AT&T is plugging its bowl game sponsorship and its wireless service by encouraging college football fans to pick the most momentous occasion in Cotton Bowl history.

In the run-up to the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic on Jan.2, fans can participate in the “Greatest Moment AT&T Cotton Bowl History” contest by voting for one of three choices online at http://www.attcottonbowl.com. AT&T Wireless customers can vote by testing A, B or C to 7313.

The three choices, all pre-dating AT&T’s sponsorship of the bowl game, are:

A: The 1954 “Bench Tackle” play when Alabama’s Tommy Lewis left the team’s sideline bench to tackle Rice halfback Dick Maegle, who had a clear shot at scoring a touchdown. Rice was awarded a 95-yard touchdown on the play.

B: The “Fourth-Down Catch” in the 1970 game when Texas receiver Cotton Spreyrer made a diving fourth-down save of a throw from quarterback James Street to keep a Texas touchdown drive going and enable the team to win a national championship.

C: “Montana’s Miracle Comeback ” in 1979, when the legendary Joe Montana, then the back-up quarterback for Notre Dame, entered the game in the fourth quarter and led his team back from a 22-point deficit to defeat Houston.

“With three amazing plays to choose from, this is an exciting contest for these athletic programs and fans,” said Tim McGhee, executive director for AT&T corporate sponsorships, in a statement.

Fans can vote for their favorite Cotton Bowl moment as many times as they like. The winning selection will be announced during this year’s game between Texas Tech and the University of Mississippi.
