The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, has won the six-week AT&T “World’s Loudest Pep Rally” contest by sending in the most video, audio and e-mail invitations to bring the Dave Matthews Band to their campus for a two-night concert gig.
The West Point cadets beat out both the midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy and the airmen of the U.S. Air Force Academy, who won second and third prize respectively.
The contest was judged on both the volume of invitations submitted and their originality, as judged by the members of the Dave Matthews Band. Samples of the week’s submissions were posted weekly to the AT&T Blue Room Web site (http://www.attblueroom.com/sports).
Entrants will also be able to watch live Webcasts of the Dave Matthews West Point concert there on Nov. 14 and 15.
“We congratulate the cadets at Army for their passion and determination to win,” said AT&T group president of global business services—and West Point graudate—Ron Spears in a statement. “We’re grateful to the thousands of fans who collectively sent more than 3.2 million invitations.”
The AT&T World’s Loudest Pep Rally contest garnered applications from more than 100 U.S. colleges and universities, from Auburn University and Arizona State to Wake Forest and the University of Wyoming.
