A&P Will Let Shoppers Save Text Coupons to Loyalty Cards

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Grocery retailer A&P plans to partner with the digital incentive platform provider Zavers to offer coupons that users can receive via SMS on their mobile phones and save to their store loyalty cards for automatic redemption in the checkout line.

Starting later this month, shoppers at the 433 stores A&P operates under its own trade name and others including, Waldbaum’s, Pathmark and The Food Emporium, can opt in to receive mobile coupons and discount offers via SMS from the Zave Network. They will also need to sign up for a Zavers account and register their A&P loyalty card.

Once that’s done, the shopper will be able to receive offers and discounts via text message. When they accept those offers by replying with a short-code message, the coupons are stored in their Zavers wallet. At checkout, the discount is automatically deducted from the total bill when the user swipes the A&P loyalty card linked to the account.

While Zavers.com has linked online coupons to the loyalty program used by the A&P brands for the last few months, this new enhancement is the first time those shoppers will be able to get discounts pushed to them via SMS as well as finding coupons online and saving to their Zavers account.

Other mobile coupon providers also link their Web discounts to loyalty cards. The practice has gained favor in supermarket and pharmacy retail, where shoppers are often making multi-unit purchases and scanning a mobile barcode for each discounted purchase would slow down the checkout process.
