American Express Revamps Golf Site, Adds Experiences

American Express recently relaunched its Members Clubhouse Web site as part of an effort to build its profile among cardholders who are linksters.

The company has built in new features, including golf tips and tricks, and practical insights from pro golfers Jim Furyk, Morgan Pressel and Davis Love, who will appear in print ads for the firm this summer.

American Express is looking to offer more golf experiences to cardholders through the site. Card members can now buy tickets for the 2009 U.S. Open and the 2009 PGA Championship at http://www.americanexpress.com/golf.

“By housing everything in one location, we’ve made it easier for cardmembers to find out about new programs and maximize their enjoyment of a game they love to play,” Courtney Kelso, Amex vice president of global media and sponsorships marketing, said.

Kelso noted that a significant number of Amex cardmembers have a “strong affinity” for golf. Enhanced experiences at major events, including the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open Tournament later this week, are available to card members through the site.

“As part of our continued partnerships with the USGA and The PGA of America, we are developing unique new programs that enhance the world of golf and focus on our card members’ passion for improving their game,” said Rich Lehrfeld, Amex vice president of sponsorship and event marketing, in a statement.

On Friday, Pressel will make an appearance to meet and greet fans and will walk them through at the “U.S. Women’s Open Experience presented by American Express.” The exhibit features viewing stations that will screen highlights of past U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open action.

Live leaderboard handheld devices will be available to Amex cardholders. The devices indicate where players are on the courses during the tournament, and also provides bios on them.

Members who make purchases at the tourney merchandise tent will receive a free commemorative DVD featuring highlights from USGA championships.
