Amazon.com reported $80 million in net income during its third quarter, up from $19 million a year ago. The online retailer’s net sales rose from $2.31 billion to $3.26 billion during the same period. The quarter ended Sept. 30.

While the gains came across all of Amazon’s segments, worldwide electronics and other general merchandise had an especially strong quarter, growing 54%, to $1.08 billion. The category made up 33% of the company’s net sales, up from 30% a year earlier.

The company also sold 2.5 million copies of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the final installment in the Harry Potter novel series, during the quarter. The sales made it Amazon’s largest new product release.
