Amazon.com Revises Privacy Policy, E-Mails Customers

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Amazon.com has revamped its privacy policy, and is contacting its entire 23 million-customer base via e-mail regarding the changes.

“We value the trust our customer place in us, and we wanted them to have as clear a picture as possible of what we’re doing and not doing when it comes to the information they gave us,” said Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos in a statement.

The new privacy notice gives details regarding information volunteered by customers, as well as that which the site automatically collects and the potential for appended data use. It also covers the use of cookies, and describes circumstances under which the company shares the information it collects.

The policy also alerts customers as to which of their personal data the company allows access to, and provides them with ways to alter or correct it, or to opt out of certain types of solicitation. The policy also flatly states that Amazon.com “does not sell products for purchase by children,” and that merchandise geared toward children is for purchase by adults.
