Alltel Celebrates “My Circle” Anniversary with Reunion Sweep

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Modern tradition has it that the second anniversary gift is china. But through the month of May, mobile carrier Alltel is offering subscribers to its two-year-old “My Circle” calling plan trips to Florida, California or Vegas instead.

To mark My Circle’s rollout in April 2006, Alltel will let new and current Circle users text CIRCLE to a short code to win a four-day, three-night reunion for themselves and up to 10 guests to one of three resort spots in Key West, FL, Las Vegas, NV, or Palm Springs, CA.

The winner, chosen by random drawing after May 31, will also get a special meal for the entire party prepared by celebrity chef Ted Allen of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” fame. Each member of the winner’s party will also receive a new wireless phone and a $200 Alltel gift card.

Entrants can also sign up for the “My Circle Reunion” contest at www.alltel.com/circlereunion.

Alltel’s “My Circle” plans allow subscribers on rate plans costing $49.99 a month or more to designate 5, 10 or 20 numbers on any network that they can call for free with unlimited minutes. The carrier claims it was the first to roll out such a plan in April 2006. The original “My Circle” offering qualified subscribers 10 free numbers. This January, the carrier expanded its products to include 5- and 20-number “My Circle” no-cost calling deals.

As an added second anniversary gift, Alltel will add a friend to the calling circle of any subscriber who’s been a “My Circle” user for two years or more. Eligible customers celebrating two years with “My Circle” can visit www.alltel.com/myaccount to add that extra number to their circles. Eligible “My Circle” customers will then receive an additional free bonus calling number on every subsequent two-year anniversary.

In February 2007, Alltel offered “My Circle” subscribers a text-to-win sweepstakes that offered a grand prize of up to $500,000 and a chance to meet the Alltel Dodge racing team at the 2007 NASCAR Winston Cup race in Charlotte, NC.
