All Your Base Are Belong To Porn

Good Magazine, “media for people who give a damn” according to its Web site, recently unveiled a revealing video with some revealing information about the big world of porn.

The video features porn star Kelle Marie slowly removing garments from her body to reveal Sharpie-written facts about porn. Here are the juicy tidbits of information shown in the PG-13 video, in order:

1 The San Fernando Valley is the porn capital of the world
2 12% of all Web sites are pornographic
3 25% of all search engine requests are pornographic
4 35% of all Internet downloads are pornographic in nature
5 Every second 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography
6 Every second $89.00 is spent on Internet porn
7 Every day 266 new porn sites appear on the Internet
8 “Sex” is the most searched word on the Internet
9 U.S. revenue from Internet porn in 2006: $2.84 billion
10 72% of Internet porn users are men…28% are women
11 70% of Internet porn traffic occurs during the 9-5 workday
12 There are an estimated 372 million porn Web pages
13 3% produced by the U.K.
14 4% produced by Germany
15 89% produced by the U.S.
16 Most trafficked adult Web site: www.AdultFriendFinder.com
17 Countries that ban pornography: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bahrain, Egypt, UAE, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Kenya, India, Cuba, China
18 AdultFriendFinder.com is the 49th most visited Web site with 7.2 million daily visits (which puts it far ahead of NYTimes.com, which garners 4.1 million daily visits)

Footnotes shown at the end of the video were literally written on Kelle’s foot, and indicated that the data used for the creative video came from MSNBC.com, TopTenReviews.com, and Alexa.com.

Though interesting and a bit shocking, these figures are far from surprising. Porn has been a mainstay online, and it does not appear to be going away anytime soon. In fact, the emergence of Web 2.0 and the media sharing craze, porn would appear to be experiencing something similar to a renaissance.
