Ai Quiero!

Taco Bell capitalizes on Dinky fever this holiday season with plush dogs that speak when you squeeze them. Four different dogs wear accessories and say lines from the chain’s ads – starring Dinky the Chihuahua – including “Yo quiero Taco Bell”; “Here leezard, leezard” (with the “free food” picket sign from the Godzilla TV spot); “Viva Gorditas” (with beret); and “Feliz Navidad, amigo” (with Santa hat). The toys hit stores nationally in mid-November and will retail – not tied to purchase – for $2.50 each until Taco Bell runs out.

Word is that when Taco Bell tested the premiums in three markets this summer, some Chihuahua fans bought dozens and then sold them on the street for as much as $100 each. Wunderman Cato Johnson, Irvine, CA, handles Taco Bell promotions; TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, CA, handles advertising.
