ABC Offers Tissues to Plug Oprah Series

Anticipating that the series will be a tearjerker, ABC is inserting tissue packets in this week’s TV Guide to help hype a new Oprah reality series and its hit companion “Extreme Makeover.”

“Oprah’s Big Give” will pit 10 people against one another in a race to give away hundreds of thousands of dollars and provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for people they’ve yet to meet around the country. The eight-week one-hour series debuts on March 2 at 9 p.m., following its Sunday night mainstay “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

The ABC-branded tissue packets will be bagged with copies of TV Guide to subscribers in select markets.

It’s the second time ABC has used the polybag ploy: ABC-branded hospital gowns were shipped with in an issue of TV Guide last September to boost the season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

“It is important for us to engage viewers in a fun and unique way that is directly related to our programming, “ said Michael Benson, executive vice president of marketing for ABC Entertainment, in a statement.
