A Great Romance

WHY SHOULD hot, steamy romance be the sole province of women who look like they’re about to starve to death?

That question prompted Joanne K. Morse to offer ladies with more Rubenesque physiques a chance to be celebrated as heroines in trashy novels.

Morse operates Rubenesque Romances (www.rubenesque.com), where the love-starved can go online to sample thumbnail descriptions of romance novels featuring hefty heroines. The site allows visitors to download the first chapters of books with titles like “In God’s Eyes” “An Appetite for Passion” and “Absentee Heart.”

Books cost $5.60 each, plus $1.35 for shipping and handling. The company offers volume discounts on multiple purchases. The novels are also available on diskette at $1 off the price of the print versions (the discount goes up to $1.50 per disk for orders of two or more). The site doesn’t offer an e-commerce option; orders can only be placed by mail.

For those interested in creating their own romances, the site features writer’s guidelines covering plot, the nature of the heroine and “Mr. Right.” -LR
