1-800-Flowers.com Contest Shows Mom the Love

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Mothers Day is coming, and online florist and gift purveyor 1-800-Flowers.com wants to give all mothers the recognition they deserve—and one of them a family vacation at a Beaches Resort getaway to the Caribbean.

Through April 29, entrants can go online and share a personal story about their mothers or someone else who has touched their lives. Web visitors to the site will be able to vote for the “most inspirational’ and “winning stories” and can share the they like stories with their personal networks on Facebook, Twitter, Digg and del-icio-us.

A daily winner will be chosen from among the stories posted and the mom featured will take pride of place as Spotlighted Mom of the Day. She’ll also be selected to win either a $100 gift certificate or a gift from The Popcorn Factory.

From May 4 through May 10, Mother’s Day, visitors will be invited to choose a grand-prize winner from among 10 finalists. Besides the Beaches family vacation, that overall winner mother will get a year of flowers from 1-800-Flowers.com and a Cheryl & Co. cosmetic bag and tote set.

The Spotlightamom.com site is built using BazaarVoice Stories, a turnkey content-sharing platform that lets users upload content and vote on submissions

“Whether she’s a first-time mom, a mother-in-law or even the office mom, every mom deserves to be recognized for the amazing role they play in our lives,’ 1-800-Flowers.com CEO Jim McCann said in a statement.

Also with an eye toward Mother’s Day—reportedly its biggest sales event of the year–the Web florist recently launched a gift recommendation site that offers advice on floral and other presents for a range of mothers from the “green thumb mom” to the “foodie mom.”
