The William Morris Agency has created a new merchandising and licensing division, appointing David Palmer to head up the new area.
The company created the new division to explore and expand licensing opportunities for existing clients, said COO Irv Weintraub. William Morris Agency is one of the largest literary and talent agencies in the world and represents clients in a variety of segments within the entertainment industry.
William Morris named Palmer as the head of the merchandising and licensing division to capitalize on his success working as a VP in the company's corporate consulting department, a role Palmer will continue serving. Palmer's new position went into effect on Monday.
"With David at its helm we can look forward to repeating the success he has had already by overseeing licensing deals for such clients as Ryan Seacrest, Tim Burton and LL Cool J," Weintraub said.
Before joining WMA, Palmer worked as senior VP-marketing and promotions at Sony Pictures Television, where he implemented marketing, advertising and publicity campaigns for the company's family entertainment divisions. In addition, Palmer worked on syndicated shows including Pyramid and The King of Queens.
