A service, the Bonded Sender Program, which defends marketers’ legitimate commercial e-mail from spam filters, has been introduced by e-mail service provider, IronPort Systems. Under the program, marketers post a financial bond to ensure the integrity of their e-mail campaign. E-mail recipients who believe they have received an unsolicited e-mail can complain to their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or IronPort, and a financial charge will be debited from the bond. IronPort has also debuted its Virtual Gateway technology, which assigns a specific outbound IP address to each message based on campaign or message type. This means that if a particular e-mail transmission is mistakenly caught in an ISP’s spam filter, subsequent messages from that same company will still go through.
