Monday, Dec. 12 has just barely edged out Tuesday, Dec. 13 as the biggest online holiday shopping day of the year so far, according to comScore Networks.
Consumers spent a record $556 million on non-travel goods on Dec. 12, compared to $554 million on Dec. 13, the Internet-behavior-monitoring firm reported.
November 28, or “Cyber Monday,” as Shop.org called it this year, so far has been the eighth-biggest online shopping day with consumers spending $484 million on non-travel related goods.
The third biggest online holiday shopping day so far this year was Monday, Dec. 6, according to comScore.
Online holiday shopping typically starts the week strong as consumers return to work and begin taking advantage of their employers’ broadband connection and possibly, have fewer distractions than they encounter at home.
Overall, consumers spent $15.86 billion on non-travel goods during the first 46 days of the holiday spending season, Nov. 1 through Dec. 16. That’s a 23% increase from $12.85 billion during the same period in 2004, according to comScore.
The company predicts that consumer spending on non-travel goods will be more than $19 billion for the 2005 November/December holiday shopping season, a 24% increase over 2004.
