The Mailing Industry Task Force (MITF) issued its Phase 2 Progress Report, which detailed a series of improvements – both pending and potential – for mail deliverability.
According to the report, mailers will soon be able to take advantage of Intelligent Mail barcodes, which can be used to track mailings; request address-quality services (including updated address-change information); and return-mail service.
Within the USPS’s New Products and Services working group, the MITF cited a Retail Overnight idea, which would provide a relatively inexpensive next-day-deliver service to retailers, as worthy of a pilot test.
The MITF supported development of the OneCode Vision, which would incorporate a suite of services into a single bar code, and praised the Postal Service’s Premium Forwarding service, which would give consumers another option for forwarding their mail when they are temporarily away from home
Separately, the MITF honored its co-chairman, Deputy Postmaster General John M. Nolan. Nolan will retire from the service in May.
