Names and Addresses Inc., Wheeling, IL, has accused two related companies of misusing the PGA Tour Partners Club mailing list.

The 500,000-name file is owned by North American Membership Group Inc., Minneapolis, MN., according to the Aug. 16 announcement from Names and Addresses, which manages the list.

The two companies, Trend Precision Golf, Irvine, CA and Murphree Oil Co., Norman, OK, had placed 28 orders since June 1998 for a total 950,000 names, said Margie Fuchs, membership acquisition director for North American Membership Group. The misuse was detected through decoy analysis and customer complaints.

The firms were warned by North American's attorneys to cease and desist, said fuchs.

Brendan Flaherty, president of Warrior Custom Golf, Irvine, CA, had no comment on the allegations.

Fuchs claimed that the file, rented for one-time use, was used by Trend Precision Golf to make unauthorized telemarketing calls under the names Warrior Custom Golf, All Sports & Collectibles and True Lies. In addition, it sent unauthorized direct mail solicitations under the name Warrior Custom Golf. North American Membership Group does not permit telemarketing on its PGA Tour Partners Club file, Fuchs alleged.
